New work
Just finished this piece, "From Shore". It's the largest painting I've completed in quite a few years, 36" x 80", oil on birch panel. It's been exciting for me to explore larger marks and think more about the surface of the paint in this piece. It's on the wall at Michigan Artists' Gallery in Suttons Bay, MI. You can see an earlier state of this painting if you scroll down to the August 10 post. I thought the painting was almost finished back then, but finally decided to push it off the fence, figuratively speaking, more towards abstraction.

Moving paint
This summer I have been focused on the paint in my paintings. While that might seem obvious, it really isn't so. I'm trying to follow the paint as it leads me past the object-ness of the landscape. Past the trees and clouds and water and landforms. Letting the paint be the subject matter.
