New work
Just finished this piece, "From Shore". It's the largest painting I've completed in quite a few years, 36" x 80", oil on birch panel. It's been exciting for me to explore larger marks and think more about the surface of the paint in this piece. It's on the wall at Michigan Artists' Gallery in Suttons Bay, MI. You can see an earlier state of this painting if you scroll down to the August 10 post. I thought the painting was almost finished back then, but finally decided to push it off the fence, figuratively speaking, more towards abstraction.

Hi, Ang!

This is very interesting. I'm not sure I understand it, but I also see that abstract art isn't always about reproducing the landscape that you see as much as expressing something using the paint as a medium for that expression. I personally liked this piece better in its original form - but that's because I like impressionistic landscapes that help me "escape" from the pressures of my crazy world! You tend to work in colors that really resonate for me. Maybe it's the influence of Grandma Margaret and her turquoise walls!!! :) She def. had her own color sense!! BTW, what's it like logistically to work on an 80" wide panel? I assume you didn't do this one plen air!! It would be like a sail, huh?

Hugs,
Deb
